The QDF product line includes a wide range of five-point protectors. Versions are available that use both gas tube and solid-state overvoltage protection, as well as hybrids.
All five-point protectors have two positive-temperature-coefficient resistors (PTCRs) for overcurrent protection. These devices are fast-acting, have low temperature resistance, and are completely self-restoring when the fault current source is removed from the line.
QDF-5CGS-260R and QDF-5CGS-230N five-point protectors contain a heavy-duty, three-electrode, gas discharge tube. They are used when frequent and large lightning-induced voltages are expected on the telecom pairs.
QDF-5CHY-200RN and QDF-5CHY-260R five-point protectors incorporate overvoltage surge-protection devices that utilise both gas-tube and semi-conductor technologies. These products combine the high current-handling capability of a gas-discharge tube with the speed of a silicon device.
QDF-5CSS-220R five-point protectors are thyristor-based solid-state protectors, designed for use in applications demanding the speed and low operating voltage that solid state protectors alone can provide.
